Ringfort - rath

Situated on top of a slight rise, in gently undulating pasture, with good views in all directions. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a circular-shaped ringfort (approx. dims. 39m NW-SE; 35m NE-SW) which is incorporated into a field boundary running ENE-WSW at N. Partially levelled monument depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as an arc (C 29m) of a scarp surviving from ENE-E-ESE and incorporated into a field boundary to N.
Monument described in 1970 as the remains of a roughly circular-shaped enclosure defined by an earth and stone bank visible from ENE-E-ESE which has been steepened in relatively modern times. A short arc of a scarp is visible at W. According to the OS maps, the perimeter of the ringfort was incorporated into an earth and stone field fence from NE-N-ENE. The enclosing element of the monument has been levelled from ESE-WSW and WNW-NW. There is a modern gap at ENE, the original entrance is not visible. The interior rises slightly from the perimeter towards the centre and has traces of cultivation ridges running E-W. A rectangular house site (WM018-105001-) is visible in the centre. Most of the S side of the monument has been quarried. Monument has been completely levelled and is not visible today on Digital Globe aerial photography.
