Ringfort - rath

The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on steep W-facing slope of a prominent hill, in pasture and having extensive views to W. Visible as a roughly oval-shaped tree-planted ringfort on Digital Globe aerial photography. Depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as a roughly oval-shaped area (approx. dims. 29m N-S; 26.5m E-W) defined by a scarp. Monument described in 1975 and 1979 as an irregular oval-shaped area defined by an earth and stone bank best preserved from S-W-N-E with no trace of an external fosse. A well-defined gap at E could be the remains of an original entrance feature. The interior has a NW-facing slope. The enclosing bank has been removed from E-S and modified at SW. It has also been altered at S, where it is traversed by the remnants of an old field boundary running N-S which extends into the centre of the interior, where it returns to the enclosing bank at E. A bank located off-centre to W appears to extend under this later field fence. The enclosing bank has been modified at E and from SE-S, where another field fence extends outwards to SE.
