The National Monuments Service's description
Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS six-inch map as a sub-rectangular shaped tree-plantation immediately S of the avenue leading to Gartlandstown House located 170m to the NW. Not depicted as an antiquity on the 1837 ed. OS six-inch map. On the 1911 ed. OS 25-inch map the monument is depicted as a roughly semi-circular shaped earthwork intersected from E to S by a field boundary running NE-SW across SE quadrant of earthwork.
Situated on top of a prominent gently rising hill in undulating grass-land on the demesne lands of Gartlandstown House with good views in all directions. Ringfort (WM012-012---) 250m to NNE. In 1972 the site was described as an enclosure (approx. diam. 36.5m) almost completely levelled. All that survives are the poorly preserved arc of an earthen bank (Wth 2.5m; int. H 1m; ext. H 1.3m), curving from NE-E-S-SSW, which represents the field boundary depicted on the current ed. OS six-inch map. No visible remains of enclosing element of monument from SSW-W-N-NNE that is depicted on the 1911 ed. OS 25-inch map. No surface remains visible of any enclosing element on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. It is possible that this earthwork may have been a designed landscape feature of post-1700 date associated with the landscaping of the demesne of Gartlandstown House.
