The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a gentle SE-facing slope below Brusselstown Ring (WI027-018--- / WI027-78---- and WI021-080----). Quadrangular enclosure (dims. c. 55m NW-SE; 40-50m NE-SW) widening from the NW (Wth 40m) to the SE (Wth 50m) defined on the NW and SW sides by an earthen bank (Wth 1.5m; int. H 1.5m) and an external flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 2m; D 0.9m). The inner and outer faces of the bank are vertical with stone facing (to the base of the fosse externally). The SE side is defined by a steep scarp (H 1.6m) and an external fosse; the NE side is now marked by a field bank. No indication of an entrance or internal features. On the first edition OS 6-inch map a 'Castle in ruins' (WI027-022001-) is indicated on the SE edge of site.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
