Situated on a plateau with sea-cliffs c. 300m to the S. Land at Ardeogenna was owned by James FitzGerald of Ardogenna in 1641, although he had leased it to Pierce Power in 1619 (Simington 1921, 59). In the early 18th century the land passed to the Coghlan family, one of whom, probbly Jeremiah, built the house in the late 18th century. By the 1870s it had passed to the McKenna family, and it was abandoned by 1920 (Fraher 1983).
The house is a three-bay two storey Gothic mansion with circular corner towers of three stages. The house has plain rectangular windows, but the towers have pointed openings. A rectangular tower of five stages was added later. The house was connected by crenelated walls to a smiliarly decorated yard and outhouses to the E. (Bence-Jones 1978, 10)
