The National Monuments Service's description
Described as 'Castle (in Ruins)' with surviving remains on the 1840 ed. and as 'Castle (Site of)' on the 1927 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, but the monument is a rath (WA031-046001-). There is no record of a castle here other than local tradition (OS Name Book). Land at Ballynure and Lisnefinley was owned by Thomas FitzHarris in 1641 but there is no mention of a castle (Simington 1942, 32).
