The National Monuments Service's description
Located on a slight rise in an undulating landscape. The parish church of Whitechurch was within a rectangular, neglected graveyard (dims. c. 50m E-W; c. 40m N -S) defined by stone-clad earthen banks. There is a derelict C of I church on the site, but there is no evidence of an earlier structure, not even the archtectural fragments or the graveslab of Catherine Hyde, inscribed in roman capitals and probably 17th centur in date, described by Power (1898a, 88-9).
Power, Rev. P. (1898a) Ancient ruined churches of Co. Waterford, WAJ 4, 83-95, 195-219.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
Date of upload/revision: 11th August, 2011. Compiled by: Michael Moore.
