Situated on a gentle S-facing slope. The parish church of Affane, listed as Athmethan and valued at over £6 in the ecclesiastical taxation (1302-1306) (Cal. Doc. Irl. vol. 5, 305). By the mid 16th century it had been united with the church of Dungarvan (Bradley et al. 1989, 4), but in a visitation of 1588 it iwas in the Deanery of Ardmore (Power 1898b, 92-3). The ruins of a Church of Ireland church are within a rectangular graveyard (WA029-013002-) (dims. c. 120m NW-SE; c. 80m NE-SW). There is no visible surface evidence of an older structure, although Power (ibid.) was able to trace it S of the church.
