The National Monuments Service's description
Recorded as a 'Danish Fort' on a 1773 Scalé map (NLI: ms. 7217, 4) and marked as a D-shaped embanked enclosure (ext. dims. c. 40m NW-SE; c. 30m NE-SW) truncated by a NE-SW field bank at SE on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Situated on a gentle SW-facing slope. Subcircular grass-covered area (dims. 35m N-S; 30m E-W) defined by a widely spread earthen bank (Wth 9-11m; H 0.6-1m) which is reduced to a scarp down to the interior (H 0.6m) NE-E and incorporated into a field bank E-S. There is an entrance (Wth 4.5m), possibly original, at SW.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
