The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a generally level landscape with a slight slope down to the E. Identified in centre-line testing (05E0763) of the alternate route of the N25 Waterford city bypass (Russell 2008b, 361), and further excavation (06E0916) on Bawnfune 2 was conducted in re-aligning a Bord Gáis pipeline (Russell 2010b). The area was excavated completely (E3446) during 2007 by Anne-Marie Lennon (2010b).
An oval pit (dims. 6m x 3.7m; D 0.55m) and four smaller pits were recorded in a concentration (dims. c. 10m x c. 15m) with a short curved slot-trench (L 2.7m; Wth 0.46m) nearby. Two adjacent slot trenches and some post-holes were also excavated. Some flints that are possibly Neolithic in character were recovered, and a post-hole produced a C14 date of cal BC 3770-3530, (Lennon 2009a, 3,4, App. 5; Lennon et al. 2011)
