The National Monuments Service's description
Situated at the W edge of a broad W-E river basin. The site of the parish church of Kilronan, which was in ruins in 1615 (Power 1913, 116). The overgrown foundations of one wall survive (L 7.5m), possibly the N wall of the graveyard (dims. c . 35m E-W; c. 25m N-S) marked on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, or the church, but there is no evidence of burial. The foundations of a N-S wall (L 8m), possibly the E wall of a church obscured by overgrowth and cairn material, are 15m to the E. The remains of a fosse (at S: Wth of top 12m; int. D 0.2m; max. ext. D 1.2m) S-W c. 20m from the church may form part of a D-shaped enclosure with traces of an entrance (Wth c. 4m) at SE. The straight E side, defined by a scarp (H 0.6m), faces on to reclaimed marshland to the E. A stone mortar, probably 18th or 19th century in date, was moved to the nearby RC church (WA017-009002-) in the late 19th century. Archaeological testing (07E0762) immediately to the SW failed to produce any related material, (Hurley 2010). (Power 1895b, 166-7)
