The National Monuments Service's description
Situated towards the bottom of a W-facing, grass-covered slope. A thatched stone house is recorded on the terrier of the Down Survey map of Kilmeaden parish (1655-6) at Adamstown, and the land at Adamstown was owned by Maurice Power in 1640 (Simington 1942, 138). This field was known as the 'castle field' in the 19th century according to J. O'Donovan (O'Flanagan 1929, 25), but there is no visible evidence of a castle at ground level.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
