The National Monuments Service's description
Excavated (98E0575) as Areas 8 (Tierney and Ryan 2008) and 9 (Tierney 2008c) of the N25 Kilmacthomas re-alignment. At area 8 a pit (1.2m x 0.38m; D 0.15) contained iron slag, while an adjacent pit (dims. 0.7m x 0.6m; D 0.12m) is interpreted as a charcoal production pit. Area 9 is c. 15m to the E and consists of a pit (diam. 0.6m; D 0.5m) that contained iron slag and burnt clay and it may have been a furnace.
