The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on the NE bank of a slight SSE-NNW stream. First identified in centre-line testing (02E0249) by Tara O'Neill of Archaeological Consultancy Services in advance of the Waterford city by-pass (O'Neill 2004a), and fully excavated (03E0415) by Linda Clarke of ACS as a part of Knockhouse Lower 1. A burnt mound spread (dims. 15m N-S; 9m E-W; T 0.06-0.6m) overlay a subrectangular trough (dims. 3.2m NE-SW; 2m NW-SE; D 0.6m) with fragmentary remains of its wood lining. A hearth was c. 10m to the N represented by a thin spread of oxidised clay (diam. 1-1.1m; T 0.03m) and some stake-holes. (Clarke 2006a; Clarke and Ginn 2011b)
