The National Monuments Service's description
On ground sloping gently to S, in gently undulating terrain, under pasture. No visible trace of houses above ground, though visible as cropmarks on an aerial photograph (GSI May 1977 R. 594/S. 691). Three-quarters of this house excavated (Excavation number E00246) prior to Cork-Dublin gas pipeline in 1982 (Doody 1987, 36-40, Hut 2). Circular structure (diam. 4m), defined by a shallow foundation trench which contained five post-holes (Doody 2007, 20-22, Structure 2). A centrally place post-hole in the interior may have functioned as a supporting post (ibid. 22). A possible entrance feature consisting of a narrow opening (Wth max. 0.3m) represented by a break in the foundation trench existed in the NW quad. (ibid.). The terminals of the foundation trench expanded at this point and two post-holes were recorded on the S side where the foundation trench turned inward towards the interior of the structure with a post-hole also at the N terminal (ibid.). Bronze Age houses (TS087-007002-) and (TS087-007003-) are located c. 4m to SE and c. 5m to E respectively.
