The National Monuments Service's description

During excavations preceeding the construction of the Cork-Dublin gas pipeline a field system and cultivation ridges were uncovered (Cleary 1981, 116-127). Field boundaries excavated probably represent divisions of plots. A clear ridge and furrow system was revealed and an earlier E-W system was cut by a later N-S system, possibly representing a change in plot allocation (ibid. 126-7). These plot divisions were shallow ditches (max. D 0.5m) with low earthen banks (H c. 0.5m) (ibid.).
