The National Monuments Service's description

Partial excavation of a moated site (TS077-046001-) took place in 1981-2 in advance of the Cork-Dublin gas pipeline (Doody 1987, 74-87). There was no visible trace of the monument above ground before excavation. Four internal structures were identified, three buildings in the E section and a possible fourth in the W section. Structure A, was interpreted as a house (dims. 4.25m N-S x 4.5m E-W) defined by wattle walls, the house being enclosed on three sides by the lower courses of a stone wall, thought to be the remains of a yard (ibid. 74-5). The small quantity of finds and animal bones from the moated site may imply a short period of occupation (ibid. 81). Finds consistent with a 13th/14th century date were recovered from the monument.
