The National Monuments Service's description

Mullally (1864-66, 8, 17-18) records a headstone in Fethard graveyard which dates to 1713 and he mentions that 'it is supposed to belong to the old family of the Longs, who formerly lived at Grove, near Fethard'. The present house at Grove dates from the 18th century. It consists of five-bay two-storey with attic house over basement, built c. 1760 and a later three-bay two-storey over basement block. The later block, added c. 1830, changed the articulation of the W-facing older house so that the new front faced N and the three-bay block forms a symmetrical composition with the earlier wings. The pedimented rear of the old house facing the yard remains unchanged. There is a pitched gable-fronted slate roof to the centre bays of the older central block and hipped slate roofs with eaves course and rendered chimneystacks on the later additions. The exterior has painted rendered walls, with a dressed limestone string-course and plinth course to the later block and a render platband to front of older wings. It has flat-headed timber sliding sash windows throughout with limestone sills, six-over-six pane to the elevation of the earlier house and wings and bowed corner of earlier block, four-over-four horizontal pane to the W elevation of wings and one-over-one pane to later blocks. Barred three-over-three pane to basement of earlier block. (www.buildingofireland.ie)
