The National Monuments Service's description
Incorporated as a step in the rood stair, a spiral stair in the thickness of the wall where the S wall of the chancel meets the nave of the medieval parish church of St John the Baptist (TS070-040001-), currently Holy Trinity C of I church. This limestone fragment (dims. 0.52m x 0.16m; T 0.12m) has a latin inscription, in relief, in Black Letter script with an interlace design followed by the letters: NSA. (Farrelly and FitzPatrick 1993 Unpublished Urban Archaeological Survey field notes).
