The National Monuments Service's description

Lying in the floor in the SE angle of the former nave of the medieval parish church of St John the Baptist (TS070-040001-), currently the vestry of Holy Trinity C of I church. This limestone slab is broken, the main lower portion (L 1.05m; Wth 0.75m) of the slab is intact and two pieces (sinister corner L 0.31m; Wth 0.34m; upper sinister side L 0.55m; Wth 0.41m) from the upper sinister portion are embedded in the floor above the lower piece but not in their original positions. The upper dexter portion is missing. The slab is decorated in relief, though only one arm of the banded three-armed cross with fleur-de-lis terminals is intact. There a moon motif in the fragment from the upper sinister corner. The centre of the cross-head is encircled by a crown of thorns. There is a three-barred knop beneath the angled band towards the base of the cross-shaft. The cross-shaft rests on a plain pillar base which is stepped at the top. There is a inscription in latin, in Black Letter script, which runs around the border. It was transcribed and translated by Long (1907-09, vol. 7, 177) as: HIC JACET REDMOND NASH QUI OBIIT VT DECr AO DNI 1629; CUJ' FILI' EDMOND NAISH ET UXOR EJ' ALLANA EVERARD ME FIERI FECERUT. 'Here lies Redmond Nash who died 6th December A.D. 1629; his son Edmond and his wife Elenor Everard caused me to be made'.
