Graveyard

The National Monuments Service's description

On level ground, with land falling away to the N, in undulating terrain at the N end of the village of Rosegreen. A medieval church (TS069-036----) is roughly centrally placed within a large, roughly rectangular graveyard (dims. 109m N-S; 76m E-W) . On the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map the graveyard is shown as extending c. 20m S of the church and is c. 46m E-W, it is indicated by a dashed line suggesting there was no permanent enclosing element. This is supported by the OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 3, 81 (246)) which state that 'On the south side there is a graveyard still in use, not separated by a wall or otherwise, from the adjoining pasture field'. By the 2nd (1906) ed. the entire field which enclosed the church and graveyard has become the graveyard. The headstones reflect this change, all the 19th-century headstones being concentrated in the area of the 1st ed. graveyard boundary. The later graveyard is enclosed by a stone wall with an entrance at the E end of the S wall. There are some headstones and two table-top tombs within the church interior, as well as a graveslab (TS069-036002-).
