The National Monuments Service's description
In farmyard of working farm. Castle within SW area of enclosure (TS068-061001-), just outside modern farmyard. Not visible above ground level except for some ivy covered fragments of masonry. The OS Letters c. 1840 (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 82) describe the remains of the castle as 'fragments of the walls of a square castle which was forty two feet [12.8m] by twenty one feet [6.4m] on the inside. The walls are six feet thick [1.8m], built of limestone grouted. The largest fragment remaining is only twelve feet [3.65m] in height'. According to White (1892, 30) the castle was 'evidently blown up powder. The walls lie scattered about in large masses; and the courses of the mason work plainly indicated that some of them lie on the side'.
