The National Monuments Service's description
Lying in the chancel of the Augustian abbey (TS068-013---) at Athassel, 3.2m from the E gable and 3m from the N wall. It is described by Maher (1997, 52) as a rectangular slab (L 1.5m; Wth 0.66m; average T 0.1m), and the 'base of the slab and part of its lower sinister side are missing, and a crack runs across its upper face. The decorated surface is somewhat weathered. However, the design is decipherable and consists of an incised cross-head on a slender shaft, the base of which is missing. The cross-head features a lozenge-shaped centre from which the arms, with trefoil terminals, emanate. A pair of lobed tendril-like features extend out from the arm on the dexter side. Single such features extend from the dexter sides of the upper and lower arms. Linking the base of the cross-head with the shaft, is a circular knop. There is no evidence to suggest that the slab bore an inscription'.
