The National Monuments Service's description
Formerly the northernmost reconstituted free-standing tomb in the N transept of the cathedral (TS061-025003-) on the Rock of Cashel and described by Hunt (1974, vol. 1, 221-2, vol. 2, fig. 297 and 298) when in this position. Currently built up against the E and S wall of the N side chapel of the N transept. Formerly consisting of two side panels of an altar tomb. The re-arranged figures, all within ogee-headed niches with decorated spandrels, consist of, from N to S on the E wall, St Thaddeus with a cross-staff and book; St Matthias, the upper portion of which was missing until identified in Dangandargan graveyard (TS068-026003-) c. 5km SSW of the Rock of Cashel and has subsequently reinstated; a bishop with out-turned crozier and his right hand raised in blessing; St Matthew, with a scimitar-like blade, down turned, the head and niche of this saint are missing; St Peter with his two keys; St Andrew with his saltire cross (ibid.). On the S wall, from E to W, the lower portion of a figure; St Philip with loaves in a napkin; St James Major with book, pilgrim’s hat, staff and purse bearing a scallop shell; St John with a chalice (ibid.). According to Hunt these figures are from the O’Tunney workshop (ibid.).
