The National Monuments Service's description
Lying in the choir of the cathedral (TS061-025003-) on the Rock of Cashel. A tapering slab (L 1.96m; Wth at top 0.7m; Wth at base c. 0.58m; T 0.05m) which has a chamfer (Wth 0.03m) around the upper edge (Maher 1997, 73). The lower dexter corner is missing and centre of the slab is broken (ibid.). Maher (1997, 73) describes the decoration as consisting of 'a seven-armed segmental cross, carved in relief, with a simple fleur-de-lis at each arm terminal. Three cross-bands occur at the base of the cross-head, surmounting the cross-shaft which terminates in a stepped base'. A latin inscription, in Black Letter script, runs along the sides and base of the slab (ibid.) and has been transcribed by FitzGerald (1901-03, vol. 5, 442) as: HIC IACET....DE CASSELL QUI OBIIT / SEPTIMO... / ...ANNO DNI MILLIMO CCCCC ...[CUIS AIE PPICIETUR DEUS] / AMEN PATER ET AVE. Maher (1997, 73) translates this as, 'Here lies ... of Cashel who died / September ... / ... A.D. 1500? ...on whose soul may God have mercy Amen. Pater and Ave'.
