The National Monuments Service's description
Lying in the choir of the cathedral (TS061-025003-) on the Rock of Cashel. A weathered tapering slab (L 1.98m; Wth at top 0.78m; Wth at base 0.73m) which has a crack across the centre and two across the lower end (Maher 1997, 72). The decoration, described by Maher (1997, 72), 'consists of a seven-armed segmental fleur-de-lis cross, carved in relief. A broad cross-band occurs at the base of the cross-head and surmounts the cross-shaft. A similar feature occurs at the base of the shaft. The cross terminates in a pillar-base form'. There is a latin inscriptin, in Black Letter script, which is not clearly discernible, though FitzGerald (1901-03, vol. 5, 437) was able to decipher the 'right-hand bottom corner' as: ...FILIUS PETRI HEDIAN... , which Maher (1997, 72) translates as, 'Son of Peter Hayden'.
