The National Monuments Service's description
In Killeen bog, c. 200m NE of Derrynaflan, a dryland island on which a monastery (TS054-002001-; TS054-002002-) is located. This structure (Wth 0.7m; D 0.07m; L 0.85m) was composed of densely packed longitudinal brushwoods, with occasional roundwood elements (diam. 0.04-0.09m) extending from the field surface. The structure was orientated N-S and was in a poor state of preservation where exposed. The underlying peat was composed of moderately humified sphagnum-rich peat with large patches of phragmites and occasional patches of eriophorum.
