Described in the OS Letters as a 'small part of ruins of a square castle (dims. 40 ft (13m) E-W; 29 ft (9m) N-S; wall T 7ft 6in (2m)) the walls of which survive 8 ft (2.5m) high with no architectural features visible' (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 165). Not visible at ground level; field in sugar beet at time of visit.

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
