The National Monuments Service's description
Located in a wet, marshy area with a river to the N and NW and a stream forming the boundary on the S side. A raised roughly square platform (dims. c.41m N-S; c.40m E-W) defined by a scarp (max. H 0.6m) which is heavily overgrown with gorse. Evidence of low ridge and furrow running E-W in the interior may relate to the osiery which is depicted on the 1st ed. (1840) OS 6-inch map as occupying the interior of the site. The later 1953 ed. OS 6-inch map depicts the site as a partially hachured, roughly square enclosure entitled 'Lisheen'. The site may have originally functioned as an osiery, however, its traditional association with Lisheen and its close proximity to the medieval settlement at Moyaliff approximately half a mile to the NE, may indicate an earlier, medieval origin.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
