The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on flat ground in a deer-park with a river to the SE. A limekiln is depicted immediately N of site on the 1st ed. (1843) OS 6-inch map. An oval area (diam. c. 33.5m N-S; 38m E-W) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth 2m crest, int. H 0.73m; ext. H 1.55m) situated at the S end of the deer-park, the wall of which partially destroys the bank at S. The bank itself slopes gently to the interior but falls quite steeply to the exterior. In the NE quadrant it has been quarried into with upcast thrown into the site. A gap (Wth 2.6m) in the SE sector may be the original entrance feature. No visible trace of an external fosse. Approximately 5-6m NW of the site there is a subrectangular platform (diam. 20m) of unknown antiquity. There are other earthworks in the field N of the site including a rectangular enclosure (dims. 47m x 22m) aligned almost N-S 11m from the E wall of the deer-park.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
