The National Monuments Service's description
Listed in the SMR (1992) and RMP (1998) as ford possible. The Civil Survey refers to the ford of Farneybridge which suggests the river was crossable at Farneybridge where there was a bridge. Classification has been changed to bridge possible. The 'ffoord of ffarnybridge' is mentioned in Civil Survey 1654-55. A limestone bridge known as Farney bridge consists of a four span, round arch bridge with one cut-water at centre upstream to NE. Voussoirs of well-cut stone. Vault/span of bridge built in two phases, NE end being 2.86m wide which abutts the SW end 3.77m wide, both rest on side walls which appear to be single period. Span 2.4m wide and 2.4m high above stone and concrete river bed. River currently only utilises two central arches, side arches being overgrown. Surface of bridge is fairly flat, stone parapet 0.8m high and 0.23m wide. Width of bridge from inner parapet faces is 5.8m. Two phase construction suggests a possible early date of construction as bridges were widened following the 1727 Road Act.
