The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on the NE-facing slope of a hill overlooking a valley, in pasture. Hunt's Grove House is situated at the base of the hill to the NE. An oval-shaped area (diam. 27.4m N-S; 25.4m E-W) defined by a bank at W (Wth 1.3m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1.1m), elsewhere reduced to scarp with the possible indication of outer fosse at W (Wth 1.7m; D 0.25m). There has been some dumping of clay on the edge of the site at SSW and there is a slight hollow in this sector. Large beech trees grow around the edge of the bank in the NE quadrant - the site appears to have been reused as a tree-ring.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
