The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on the N-facing slope of a ridge overlooking a river valley. An esker extends E-W along the line of the river on the N side. Depicted on the latest ed. OS 6-inch map as a partial enclosure surrounded by quarrying; not marked on the 1st ed. and not now visible at ground level. A hollow area at about this location was, according to the landowner, known as a 'fort' and was levelled 40-50 years ago.

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
