The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a natural rise in gently rolling terrain. The Royal Visitation of 1615 described the building as a 'church and chancell down' (Murphy 1914, 220) and the Civil Survey 1654-6 refers to 'an old Church' in Templederry (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 230). There is no visible trace of the original church. A Protestant church built in 1828 stands in the centre of a rectangular graveyard (TN027-152002). The graveyard wall has been completely rebuilt along the N and E sides and was repointed along the S and W. There are no early headstones or architectural fragments, all are of eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth-century date.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
