The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on a NE-facing slope of high ground in an upland area. A raised circular area (diam. 25m NE-SW) enclosed by two earth and stone banks with an intervening fosse (Wth 3.5-7m) and an entrance gap (Wth 3.2m) at NE. Possible traces of an external fosse are best visible at N where a field fence intersects the site. The inner bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.6-1.5m; ext. H 1m) and outer bank (Wth 2.3m; ext. H 1.5m) are both well preserved especially at W.

In 2002 archaeological monitoring at Toor carried out by Avril Hayes for a residential development revealed no archaeological features. The monitoring of a development associated with the construction of a house at Toor, Nenagh, did not reveal anything of archaeological significance. The site was within the zone of potential of a ringfort (rath/cashel). The stripping revealed topsoil, 0.3m deep, overlying a natural silty clay with frequent shale inclusions. This monitoring was carried out under Licence No. 02E1309 (Bennett 2004, 484).

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
