The National Monuments Service's description
Situated in wet, marshy grassland on the summit of a low NW-SE ridge in undulating pastureland. A river runs NW-SE c. 20m E of the site. A circular area (diam. 30.2m N-S) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 1.2m; int. H 0.58m; ext. H 1.08m) and an external fosse (Wth 1.5m; D 0.32m) which has been recut and maintained as a field drainage ditch. The site slopes to the SW with the natural fall of the ridge. The interior is wet and reedy with scrub and saplings growing on the bank. There is an entrance gap (Wth 1.8m) at SW with a slight hint of a causeway over the fosse (Wth c. 2.3m) and several other narrow breaks in the bank at NE, NW, W and SW.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
