The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on a natural hillock in undulating terrain. The hillock has been scarped creating a domed interior enclosed by a bank of earth and stone (Wth 1.8m; int. H 0.68m; ext. H 1.7m), a steep-sided U-shaped fosse (Wth 2.7m; D 0.88m) and an external bank of clay and stone (Wth 1.5m; ext. H 0.45m). There is evidence of stone revetment on the inner face of the inner and outer banks. The fosse at W may be partially rock cut rather than revetted. The inner bank at E/NE is particularly well preserved although it appears from the OS 6-inch map to have been reused as a field boundary and was probably built up at that stage. There is a causewayed entrance (Wth c. 5m) in the SE sector. An old post and wire fence extends NW-SE through the SW quadrant.

The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
