The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on the SW and highest point of a long narrow NE-SW ridge, overlooking Lough Derg to the W. The landowner mentioned an earthen bank which once enclosed the site but which has subsequently been levelled. A door jamb (L 0.67m) with a chamfered edge tapering to a point, presumably from the tower house, is now in the garden of nearby Shannon Hall house. There are no other visible remains of the tower house.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
