The National Monuments Service's description
In pasture, at the base of a NNE-facing slope bordering the shore of Lough Gara. Densely overgrown with blackthorn, hazel and hawthorn bushes. Indicated as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m) on the 1838 OS 6-inch map and on the 1914 OS 6-inch map as an arc of hachures E-SW in the N end of a narrow field. Now evident as a subrectangular area (25m N-S; c. 30m E-W), on a level terrace at the base of a steep slope, defined by a linear scarp (H 1.3m) along the N side, by linear field boundaries on the E and W sides and by a curving bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.25m) of earth and stone SE-SSW. A shallow depression (Wth 1.5m; D 0.4m), noted on the external side of the bank at S, may indicate the line of a silted-up fosse. The interior is level and covered with overgrowth. The ground rises immediately to S.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
