The National Monuments Service's description
On top of a low E-W ridge. A trapezoidal area (41.5m E-W; 47m N-S at W end; 39m N-S at E end) enclosed by a stone wall. The entrance is at the W end of the N wall, with a stile at the opposite corner. The S two thirds of the graveyard are raised (max. H 2.6m) above the external ground level, with the mortared stonework of a limekiln (SL042-004006-) (indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map) acting as a revetment. At the N edge of the raised area, an arc (C 19m) formed by a scarp N-E may be the remains of an early ecclesiastical enclosure (SL042-004005-). The headstones date to the 19th and 20th centuries and there are also many uninscribed grave-markers. There is a bullaun stone (SL042-004003-) in the E half of the interior. This may also be the site of a nunnery (SL042-004002-). The NW portion of the townland, in which this graveyard is located, is named 'Killeen' on the 1910-11 OS 6-inch map.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
