The National Monuments Service's description
In level pasture. The church, which is indicated on the 1914 OS 6-inch map as a rectangular structure (c. 10m E-W; c. 5m N-S), is reduced to a scatter of rubble covered by dense scrub overgrowth. According to local information, it was '20ft [6m] long and 14ft [4.2m] wide with a bit of a gable'. A displaced stone (L 1m; 0.2m x 0.2m), to the S of the church, is said to have been an altar stone. There is also a local tradition of an associated graveyard (SL041-048004-) but no visible remains of this are apparent. There is a holy well (SL041-047----) 90m to the N. The church is named 'Templecaleen', on the 1914 OS 6-inch map, but on the 1838 OS 6-inch map this name is given to a nearby site (SL041-049----), 50m to the S.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
