The National Monuments Service's description
On a gentle S-facing slope, c. 100m N of Lough Skean. There are no visible remains of this hut site. It was described during a previous site inspection in 1993 (SMR (1989) file) as an oval structure (5.3m N-S) with sod-covered limestone slab walls (T 1.1m; int. H 1.25m; ext. H 1.3m). The walls were lower on the W side forming an entrance (Wth 0.4m). The interior was scooped out and the E side was covered with overgrowth. A quarry lies immediately to S. Though named 'Giant's Grave' on the 1914 OS 6-inch map, the remains were not those of a megalithic tomb.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
