The National Monuments Service's description
In the SE corner of a drained lake; the extent of the lake is marked by a growth of rushes. Views are restricted by surrounding drumlins though Kesh Corann is visible in the distance. A roughly circular low-mound crannog (diam c. 31m; H 1.8m) sloping down gently to indistinct edges. There is an oval elevation (15.2m N-S; 11.9m E-W; H c. 0.35m) in the E portion. An old N-S drain cuts through this elevation revealing layers of sand flecked with charcoal as well as some evenly sized stones (dims. 0.3m x 0.2m). A more recent drain also cuts through the crannog, skirting the W edge of the elevation. This reveals that the crannog sits on lake sand, over which is a layer of peat containing horizontal timbers, roundwood and some brushwood. On top of this is a thin layer of fire-cracked stones.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
