Hut site

The National Monuments Service's description

In upland pasture, in a natural hollow on the N-facing slope of a knoll in the Bricklieve Mountains and within the N end of a field system (SL040-063001-). A slightly sunken circular area (4.7m E-W; 3.7m N-S) defined by a low stone bank (Wth 1.8m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.5m) with the remnants of internal stone facing. At N and S, where the bank is scarped into rising ground, it has a vertical internal face (H 0.75m) and a slight external lip. Immediately to W of the hut site the hollow has been quarried for limestone producing a U-shaped pit (10.4m E-W; 7.4m N-S) defined on the S, W and N by vertical sides (H 1.5m) of exposed limestone. The hut site is located at the edge of the open E end of this pit and the base of the pit is at a slightly lower level than that of the hut. A cairn (SL040-066----) lies c. 17m to S on the summit of the knoll.
