The National Monuments Service's description
In open water in Ballindoon bay, c. 100m from the N shore of Lough Arrow with a clear view of Carrowkeel and Kesh Corann to SW. The whole crannog is submerged, but the surface can be seen clearly under the water. An oval high-cairn crannog (19.1m N-S; 17.9m E-W; H 2.05m above the sand and gravel lake-bed) consisting of a firm surface of rounded to subangular stones (diam. 0.2-0.3m). Some larger stones (diam. c. 0.5m) at the SSE edge may be structural. There is a central oval cairn (4.1m N-S; 3m E-W) of stones (max. diam. 0.6m). The cairn is surrounded by a plateau consisting of small stones forming an even surface at a depth of 0.85m below the water. The plateau slopes gradually down to E, S and W while the drop to the N is more abrupt. The submerged edges appear to be distinct in material. Another crannog (SL034-239----) is situated to the NW. This crannog was mentioned as a 'shoal' NW of another crannog (possibly SL034-219001-) by Wood-Martin (1886, 246).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
