The National Monuments Service's description
On the NE-facing slope of a ridge. Trapezoidal area (33m NE-SW; 48m SE-NW on NE side; 20m on SW side) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 3m; int. H 1.4m; ext. H 1m) with external stone-facing. There is a possible entrance (Wth 2m) in the SW corner. The interior slopes down to NE and is raised on the N side to compensate for the hillslope; a drain has been cut along the inner side of the bank at NE. The bank along the NE side is incorporated into a NW-SE field boundary. Recorded in 1836 as 'Lisdoogan fort' (OSNB vol. 2, 233). Raftery (1974, 84) suggested there was an outer bank.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
