The National Monuments Service's description
In undulating pasture, on top of a low rise, at the base of Knocknashee Mountain. The W slope of the rise is very steep and is utilised as part of the defences of the rath. A raised roughly circular area (32.5m N-S; 28m E-W) defined by flat-topped, earthen bank (Wth 2.5m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 2.2m) SE-NNE and by a scarp (H 0.7m) elsewhere. A shallow fosse (Wth 1.4m; D 0.1m) is cut into a steep natural scarp along the W arc with a counterscarp bank (Wth 2m; H 0.1m) beyond it before the ground falls sharply for a further 3m. The interior slopes down to E and its surface has been dug into in places. This rath overlooks another (SL032-014001-) c. 100m to N.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
