The National Monuments Service's description
On a low rise, in low-lying poorly drained rough grazing. A raised circular area (diam. 21m) enclosed by two earthen banks with an intervening fosse (Wth 3m) and traces of a possible third bank. The inner bank (Wth 3m; max. int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.6m) is generally low internally (H 0.4m) with traces of internal and external stone kerbing. Gaps (Wth 1m) occur in the inner bank at N and NE. The middle bank is substantial (Wth 4.5m; int. H 1.1m; ext. H 1.2m) SW-N, truncated by a drain and field boundary at N and elsewhere evident as a low grass-covered rise (Wth 3m). Traces of a possible outer bank (Wth 3m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.2m) were noted 3m outside the middle bank in places S-NNW. The interior is grass-covered and the perimeter is overgrown with trees. Another rath (SL027-062----) lies c. 60m to NE. According to local information, the name 'Bullaunoge' indicated on the 1914 OS 6-inch map c. 30m to E, applied to a spring well now disused and choked with overgrowth.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
