The National Monuments Service's description
In the N half of Mullagh Lough in the Ox Mountains. The lake is surrounded by a mature forest plantation. The crannog was not inspected as access to the lake with water transport was restricted. It was viewed from the N shore of the lake and appears to be a low islet (diam. c. 10m), covered in rushes, c. 100m from the present shoreline. The crannog was recorded during a previous inspection as consisting of a cairn (diam. c. 8m), c. 1m below the surface of the water, and a rotary quernstone was noted on its surface (pers. comm. M. Gibbons).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
