The National Monuments Service's description
On a spine of elevated rocky ground, at the E end of a low narrow ridge. An oval platform (16m N-S; 19m E-W) defined on top by scant remains of a moss-covered stone wall, and enclosed by an outer wall NE-W with an intervening gap (Wth 3m). The oval platform is in effect a modified natural rise, defined NW-NE by a steep drop (H 3m) and elsewhere by a more gentle fall of ground (max. H 1m). The interior is level but with an uneven surface broken by a scattering of stone. The W third is covered by low scrubby blackthorn bushes. A shallow depression (Wth 2m; D 0.4m) extends from the S edge of the oval platform into the interior to N for 6.5m, probably the result of quarrying. The entrance was most likely at E where the interior is lowest relative to external ground level and where a slightly raised stony causeway-like feature (Wth 1.3m) bridges the gap between the enclosing walls. There is a possible souterrain (SL021-032002-) in the interior, adjacent to the entrance at E.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
